Memory Cafe Hits a High Note With Holiday Singalong

December 15, 2020

Holiday carols such as “Silver Bells” and “Up on the Housetop” warmed the hearts of those who gathered virtually Dec. 14 for the first singalong presented by Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging. Even though the event was not in person, the music united participants and helped them feel a little normalcy during the holiday season when loved ones are not getting together.

Joseph Zuzell, resource coordinator, sang and played guitar to lead the group with Adrianne DeVivo, dementia specialist, of Hartford HealthCare Center for Healthy Aging. One of the more poignant moments for many was the song, “I’ll be Home for Christmas.”

“During this unusual holiday season, it is important to connect with our loved ones in any way we can,” DeVivo said.

The seasonal event was held as a fun activity during Memory Café, a new meetup for people with memory loss, families and caregivers. Memory Café, each Monday at 10 a.m., gives people the opportunity to socialize and join in happy, positive activities as well as meet others with memory loss.

“It gives people something fun to look forward to and a great way to start off the week,” DeVivo said.
